Spirit Falls With My Baby!

Wednesday, April 19, 2017 - Joe Kiedinger

There’s a special place in North-central Wisconsin, Spirit Falls. Although the scene is beautiful, especially in the Spring when the water is high, it makes it all that more beautiful when you are one-on-one with one of your children. In this case, I’m with my youngest daughter, Amelia.

I began a tradition with my oldest son, Alex. When a child turns nine they take a one-on-one trip with Dad up to the cabin in Tomahawk. There we bond for a couple of days and just see what happens. I think that’s where the magic is in the ‘see what happens’ part.IMG_2166 (1).jpg

This stop was random and not planned. We shut our phones off and just spent time together. These moments are precious to all parents. I think we need to think of this for our employees as well. Spending moments of one-on-one time to just catch up on life can lead to stronger relationships and a stronger business.

Life moves fast. Creating moments with associates is a simple way to learn about them and to show you care. People don’t care what you know until they know that you care. Perhaps this wisdom may spark ideas for you to begin practicing at work. It’s as simple as scheduling a 15-minute coffee chat every week with a person in your work network.

Like my wife, Danica, reminds me. It’s the little things that make all the difference.

ACTION PLAN: Schedule some short one-on-one’s with three people you rely on where you work. Create the opportunity and see what happens!{{cta(‘e49a53f3-aed6-436a-877d-9364778c12ba’,’justifycenter’)}}
