Sharing experiences

Wednesday, July 23, 2014 - Joe Kiedinger

As you may know, I’m a big proponent of mentoring. Years back, I myself was mentored by Dave Skogen of Festival Foods. Back then, I was in sales and Dave helped me to realize my potential and supported me as I launched J. Kiedinger Advertising, which has grown to become Prophit Marketing, Inc. If it wasn’t for those long talks with Dave, I may not have ventured out on a limb and may still be working in sales today. It’s because I had someone with experience and knowledge to bounce ideas off of that I was able to grow. His advice gave me the extra confidence I needed to make those big decisions.

I suggest everyone find a mentor or mentee to chat with regularly because the relationship can be so beneficial on both ends. For those of you who have “made it” in the business world, supporting a business newcomer can feel incredibly rewarding. You feel like you’re really stepping up as a Servant Leader and making a difference in someone else’s life. For those of you who are fledglings in business, I suggest you seek out someone with more experience than you and see if they’d be willing to join you for a coffee once a month or so. Having the opportunity to pick someone’s brain can be priceless.
