Oh to be young…and dignified: A Millennial’s Response to Servant Leadership

Thursday, June 2, 2016 - Joe Kiedinger

Dignity isn’t something I’d given much thought to before working at Prophit. If I had, I probably would’ve come here much sooner. It might be easy to forget what a vital thing dignity is, until you don’t have it. When Joe sat on my desk my second week here and asked “What can I do to make this place awesome for you?”, that was the moment I knew I was working for a servant led organization.

As a millennial, here are 3 ways that I have felt dignified:
  1. I’m treated as an individual, not just someone here to perform a job. My coworkers genuinely care about my interests and motivations. They’re always willing to support in any way they can to be sure I’m getting the most out of my job, and vice versa.
  2. I’ve received encouragement. After learning my motivations through my About Me Card, my coworkers know I thrive off of this.
  3. Everyone communicates openly, and values each other’s opinion. We work together as a team, and do our best to be sure everyone is on the same page.
As a result, work no longer feels like work. Work has become one of the biggest purposes in my life. My job fulfills me. Working at a servant led organization has enabled me to be a better wife, daughter, sister, friend, and coworker.

More Servant Leadership

Sometimes, all it takes is a little inspiration.

Understanding where others are coming from is critical in communicating and working toward a common cause.
