Do Workplace Wellness Programs Boost Productivity?
Wednesday, May 30, 2018 - Joe Kiedinger
Productivity in the workplace is boosted by positive stimuli that cause the brain to release feel-good chemicals associated with the employer. Certainly physical wellness programs can achieve a similar effect. However, it’s important to realize the best physical wellness programs rely on teamwork. A group accomplishing something together creates engagement, which leads to productivity and lower turnover.
The majority of employee distraction, however, is related to stress. As a matter of fact, stress is the #1 health epidemic in America. Companies who do not acknowledge this fact and feel that a gym membership discount constitutes as a wellness program are kidding themselves. Make sure mental wellness is a major part of the program.
Consider some of these ideas to get started: create team-building health events by joining a group marathon or donate your time to My Team Triumph. Research tools for better conversations at work surrounding dignity in the workplace or servant leadership topics. Have a book club focused on mental wellness.
Doing something is better than doing nothing. Our company does Check-Ins using www.dignify.com. These conversations are guided around dignity so that every employee understands how to properly communicate and cooperate with each unique person they work alongside.
What will you do? Something is better than nothing!
