I just recorded an upcoming episode of my podcast, The Dignity Dialogue with a good buddy of mine, Greg Le Moine. Greg has a rather rare profession. He’s an international teacher who has taught in many regions around the world including South and Central American, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
This guy has experienced a wild array of cultural differences firsthand. Did you know the head is considered sacred in Thailand and you should never touch someone else’s? Or that smiling at strangers in Korea is considered strange?
And as we dove into those differences it got me thinking. Just like cultural norms vary from country to country they also vary in different workplaces. Do not be alarmed if you receive a high five rather than a handshake if you join the Prophit Co. team. But try that move at a fancy-schmancy corporate office and you might receive some concerned glances.
You might not fit a certain company culture. And, hey, that’s okay. If something just doesn’t resonate with you or you feel you need to force yourself into a something that’s not natural, it might be time to cut the cord. You just might be amazed what opportunities arise when you step away from something that didn’t fit quite right.
