Communicate. Communicate. Communicate.

Wednesday, March 25, 2020 - Joe Kiedinger

Things have changed, it’s undeniable. Are you struggling to find the words to carry your company through the rain? I’m here to tell you, you can do it and do it well. We’ll be here to support you along the way.

First off, communicate, communicate, communicate. I can’t stress that enough. Really over communicate during this time. Many of you have half of your staff, or nearly all, working off-site—it’s critical to maintain a relationship with your people and make sure everyone is on the same page. They’re navigating through massive changes and likely struggling with concerns and worry.

When you do reach out, it’s important to ask how your folks are handling things. Let them voice their anxieties so they feel heard. Then provide some encouragement so they feel uplifted. You’ll need to touch base even more so than you typically. Find 2-3 times a day you can reach out with a personal message or, even better, a video chat or call. This creates a sense of emotional security.

At Prophit Co. right now, we’re holding our typical morning huddle digitally with a Zoom meeting. We follow the same comfortable routine to maintain as much normalcy as possible. Let me tell you, seeing everyone’s face is uplifting! Though we’re not together in the office, that sense of team is still there.

Remember, this is just a rainstorm we’re in right now. The clouds will part and it will pass. As a leader, you can protect your people from the storm simply with your words alone.
