You’ve Been Served!
Wednesday, July 20, 2016 - Joe Kiedinger
When you read this title what do you envision? A restaurant setting? A good Samaritan deed? Probably neither of those; most people think of the negative. This could be the letter that arrives in the mail that confirms your call to jury duty, or even a negative connotation of someone knocking on your door to serve court papers of summoning. Yikes!
Of course I’m referring to Servant Leadership, which is the idea of serving another person’s needs, not wants. Servants do what people need, slaves do what people want. Are you new to the movement? Well, there are dozens of books on this subject of what Servant Leadership is or what Servant Leaders do, but I don’t know of any that tells you how to implement it in an organization.
Steve Thiry, Assistant Chief of Administration for the Fond du Lac police department has found a way. Perhaps you have heard about Servant Leadership being implemented in private companies, but in a police department? Steve is an incredible guy who will be speaking at our next Servant Leaders of Wisconsin or S.L.O.W. event this September.
