Ho, Ho, Ho… The Christmas Season Is Officially Upon Us!

Wednesday, November 30, 2016 - Joe Kiedinger

I was having a conversation with my mom over the weekend. She said, “November felt slow and gradual, I loved it. Now, December is going to fly through like an eagle. Here and gone before you know it, there is just so much work to do!”

I know for the companies my wife and I own (marketing and a salon), this is the busiest time of year. For the marketing business, we have specialty ads that need to be created and holiday promotions. For the salon, every client is trying to get in before Christmas!

I must admit, my role in the company is less busy this time of year. I am involved in company culture and training. Very few companies want to see me between Thanksgiving and New Years! It’s my time to work on the business and not just in the business.JOE WOW.jpg

As a leader I wonder how aware you are of the stresses that employees go through during the season? Not only are they working above and beyond at work, they need to work above and beyond at home too.

So how can you make their season a little brighter? One idea is doing some little things to show thoughtfulness. Bring in lunch once a week. Surprise them with little gifts of appreciation like a car wash, gas card or local restaurant certificate. Basically, show them you care. I used to feel helpless this time of year, especially when I see graphic artists staying late to meet added demands. Instead, I ask myself, what can I do to make their day a little brighter?

My brain answers and I listen. Your brain will give you answers as well!
